From Still to Sparkling: What’s Next for the Bottle Weight Accord

Six months on from our last update, the Bottle Weight Accord continues to build momentum. The accord unites producers, retailers, and suppliers behind a measurable goal: reducing the average weight of 750ml still wine bottles to below 420g by the end of 2026.
Signatory members will share practical updates from measurable emissions savings to the real-world complexity of light-weighting across diverse markets and supply chains.
In the second half, we introduce the next frontier: sparkling wine.
The sparkling category presents unique challenges—where tradition, pressure levels, safety, and consumer perception come further into play. SWR’s work on light weight sparkling wine bottles will be the first definitive industry-wide assessment of this issue.
