Star Wine List Prepares to Name the World’s Best Wine Lists, in Vienna – the Sommelier Industry’s Oscars

9 June 2025 – Sommeliers from around the world are preparing to gather for the Star Wine List of the Year International Final in Vienna, on 16 June. The awards ceremony will be the final stop on a global tour that has covered 18 regions since September 2024 – winners from these local competitions will now face one another in the ultimate battle for wine list glory.

From Bangkok to London, New York to Tokyo, Riga to Singapore, Dubai to Dublin, Star Wine List of the Year’s 2024/’25 Gold Star winners span the globe. The competition will culminate with an International Final hosted in Vienna, on Monday 16th June, and sommelier teams from 21 countries (including Australia, China, France, Norway, Ireland, the UK, Latvia, Finland, the UAE and more) are confirmed as attending. Supported by sponsors including Château d’Yquem, Nyetimber, Ceretto and Austrian Wine, it’s the Oscars of the sommelier industry!

“We can’t wait to welcome the finalists from so many countries to Vienna,” says Krister Bengtsson, Founder and Publisher of Star Wine List. “From small natural wine bars to bistros and Michelin-star restaurants, these teams work at the pinnacle of wine and gastronomy not only in their markets but in the world. To bring them all together and celebrate across borders is really the highlight of our year.”

Star Wine List is the global restaurant guide for wine lovers, and the Star Wine List of the Year competition is a celebration of the world’s best wine lists – and the people who create them. Winners at Star Wine List of the Year receive Gold Stars, with runners up taking Silver. A win in an “international” category in any regional contest means automatic entry into the International Final, a much-anticipated annual event uniting the global sommelier community with a full day of activities and an awards ceremony – colleagues socialise, raise a glass and celebrate one another’s work in a rare gathering of hospitality talent.

World-renowned venues in the running for these coveted Gold Stars include the three-Michelin-starred Eleven Madison Park (New York, USA), Moor Hall (Aughton, UK) and RE-NAA (Stavanger, Norway), in addition to scene-stealing newcomers like OMA (London, UK), Chez Fifi (New York, USA), HeJi (Vilnius, Lithuania) and Restaurant Calma (Copenhagen, Denmark). Regulars at the competition returning this year include Copenhagen’s Alchemist, New York’s ChambersLes Résistants in Paris, London’s Dovetale and Core by Clare SmythPark Hotel Vitznau (Switzerland) and Margaret River’s Settlers Tavern.

The full list of finalists follows.

The awards ceremony will take place in central Vienna from 3pm on Monday 16th June. Members of the media interested in attending the event should contact Åsa Johansson for accreditation.
