Pioneering Anderson Valley Winery Handley Cellars Unveils New Wine Labels

PHILO, Calif. – June 9, 2025 – Handley Cellars is excited to unveil a refreshed look for its new label, which will slowly be rolling out as new vintages are released. Art (and especially handcrafted folk art) is core to Handley, and the new label continues to pay homage to the winery’s connection to art, telling the story of what Handley represents as the winery’s second generation continues to build on founder Milla Handley’s legacy.

Lulu Handley, president of Handley and daughter of Milla, describes the inspiration behind the new label design, saying, “We are inextricably woven with our natural environment, making our wines by hand and always with connection to the land, the climate, and what each year brings. And most importantly, we are about people – our devoted staff who work with so much care to make these wines, tend our land, and support our company, and our dear customers who give us reason to keep making wine.”

Handley was fortunate to work with local Californian artist John Gnorski, who created three original woodblock prints for the new label, and Bay Area label design company Offset. The Handley Estate Vineyard wines feature the property’s historic water tower and a jovial person––because again, Handley, first and foremost represents the people connected to this land. The RSM Estate Vineyard wines feature Milla’s horse, Rocky, who looked over the vineyard until last year when he passed away. The wines made from Handley’s neighbors’ vineyards feature a bird in flight, an image of connecting distances.

Handley’s new labels were unveiled beginning in April 2025 in the tasting room, at select retailers, and online at www.handleycellars.com.

About Handley Cellars

Located in the cool “deep end” of the Anderson Valley, on the historic Guntly Ranch, with its ranch house, barn and iconic water tower, Handley Cellars cultivates 20 acres of certified-organic Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Gewurztraminer at its Handley Estate Vineyard, with original plantings dating to 1986 and 1987. Handley also farms 7 acres of certified-organic Pinot Noir at its RSM Estate Vineyard. In 1982, Milla Handley became the first woman owner and winemaker in the United States to establish a winery in her own name. Her passion and commitment to the Anderson Valley influenced generations of vintners, while helping to establish Anderson Valley as one of North America’s most dynamic wine regions. Today, Handley is run by second-generation President Lulu Handley. Handley’s long-time winemaker, Randy Schock, continues to make the wines in keeping with Handley’s style of fruit-driven, carefully crafted expressions of Anderson Valley.
