WineFi Appoints Drinks Industry Veteran Shilen Patel to Board

Shilen Patel

May 28, 2025 (London, UK) — WineFi, the wine investment fintech which offers investors a data-driven approach to investing in fine wine, has appointed Shilen Patel to its board of directors.

Patel brings nearly two decades of experience delivering disruptive innovation across the drinks industry. He is Co-Founder of Drinks Sherpa, former Co-Founder of Independents United, and former Co-Founder and No & Low Alcohol Lead at Distill Ventures, where he supported revolutionary brands including Seedlip. He currently serves as Chairman of Lucky Saint, NICE, and Goodrays, and lectures in Entrepreneurship at Cambridge University’s Judge Business School.

The appointment reflects WineFi’s unique position at the crossroads between fine wine and investing, where the company’s supply-side operates like a wine merchant whilst the demand-side functions as an investment manager. As a passion asset, fine wine requires brand positioning that balances emotional appeal with institutional-quality investment services.

“I first spoke to Shilen over a year ago, and it was clear he understood the vision and market opportunity from the outset,” said Callum Woodcock, CEO of WineFi. “Having had a front row seat to explosive brand growth, working with someone of that experience at our stage is a dream come true.”

“Technology is set to transform fine wine investment by facilitating access and enhancing returns through quantitative analysis,” said Patel. “Given WineFi’s impressive traction, there’s no doubt they’re on the path to becoming the market leader and building a category-defining brand.”

The appointment comes as WineFi continues to scale its operations following its £1.5m seed funding round in April 2025, focusing on delivering transparent, data-driven wine investment solutions to sophisticated investors seeking alternatives to traditional asset classes.
