Innocent Bystander Breaks Free from the Yarra Valley with Two New Drops That Defy Expectation

Easy As Shiraz and premium Tassie Sauvignon Blanc lead the brand’s bold launch into new territory

May 28, 2025 — Long known for its Healesville cellar door, rule-breaking wine brand Innocent Bystander is stepping beyond its Yarra Valley roots with two fresh releases: the game-changing Easy As Shiraz from Heathcote and a zesty new Tasmanian  Sauvignon Blanc designed for the country’s biggest white wine audience.

More than just a vintage update, it’s a clear signal of what’s next for the brand as it leaves its cellar door behind and sets its sights on a broader future.

“Moving beyond the Yarra Valley doesn’t mean we’re abandoning our roots, it means we’re not limited by them,” says winemaker Geoff Alexander.

“Great fruit exists across Australia, and these two wines are just the beginning.”

Easy As Shiraz flips expectations of the classic red variety on its head. Made from premium Heathcote Shiraz, it lands at just 10% ABV, making it a session-friendly red that’s light, smooth and full of flavour. Expect juicy wild berries, soft tannins and a sultry vanilla finish.

“Shiraz brings a lot of people into wine, but many drop off due to its intensity,” says Alexander. “This wine is recognisably Shiraz, just easier to love.”

With an approachable profile and $25 RRP, Easy As Shiraz is built for red wine fans looking for a more laid-back alternative that still delivers character.

Meanwhile, the new Tasmanian Sauvignon Blanc offers a premium homegrown alternative to the Kiwi classics. Sourced from 2024 Tasmanian fruit, it’s crisp, expressive and crafted for everyday drinking, with zesty citrus, fresh-cut herbs and crisp acidity. It clocks in at 14% ABV with a $23 RRP.

These two releases mark a new chapter for Innocent Bystander – one that moves beyond regional cult status and into the national spotlight, following the success of category challengers such as Watermelon Spritz

“No matter where the grapes are grown, we’ll make wine that’s easy to love and hard to forget, best paired with people,” adds Alexander.
