Embrace the Essence of Barolo, Breathe the Spirit of the Langhe: Saffirio’s Journey Through Wine and Land

May 26, 2025 (Castelletto di Monforte d’Alba) — In Castelletto di Monforte d’Alba, where Barolo originates, surrounded by ancient hills and bathed in deep silence, the Saffirio winery, part of Brave Wine, the wine holding company founded by entrepreneur Renzo Rosso, transforms hospitality into a natural and conscious gesture. Here, wine tourism is much more than merely a trend to be followed; it is the tangible extension of an idea of wine that focuses on people, the landscape and time: time to listen, to understand and savour. With this spirit, over the years, the winery has built up a hospitality project capable of narrating not only the wines, but also the philosophy behind them, offering visitors the chance to experience the winery as a place characterised by relationships, discovery and shared memory. A project born out of the desire to embrace those seeking authenticity and a sense of depth, offering proposals that combine storytelling, tasting and engagement with the land.

It is with this in mind that Saffirio have created the Gold Wine Experience, the most intense expression of its approach. Not just a simple vertical tasting, but a journey through five vintages of Barolo chosen between 1978 and 2020, selected from the estate’s historical reserve. A journey that speaks of soils, seasons and evolution, and which fills every glass with the value of time and the consistency of a production vision handed down from generation to generation for over two centuries. Before tasting the wines, visitors are taken to see the vineyards and the cellar, giving them an opportunity to fully understand the silently-performed work that goes into every vintage. A work that is deeply rooted in respect for nature and fuelled by attention, listening and precision.

Then there is the Barolo Experience, which expands the story, embracing the history of the cellar: from the first steps taken by the Saffirio family on the hills of Monforte d’Alba to the discovery of the single vineyards, through to the tasting of four different interpretations of Barolo made today, with the single-grape winesCastelletto PersieraRavera and Perno, and our Barolo Riserva Millenovecento48. A great chance to enter the beating heart of the winery, actually touch the raw material used to create the wines and gain an in-depth understanding of what it means, still today, to be the keepers of an iconic appellation, while focusing firmly on the future. A selection of charcuterie and cheeses will make this experience, even more delicious and complete.

Last but not least, from April to October, the Pic Nic in the vineyards offers the chance to take some time out in nature, to appreciate the silence and beauty all around. When the guided tour of the cellar and tasting of four different labels is over, guests are given a lunch box for two, completed with a bottle of Barbera d’Alba Superiore and a corkscrew featuring the Saffirio logo. They are free to go out and choose a spot among the vineyards to complete their experience under the Langa sky.

The investments made in the winery by Brave Wine have led to the recent inauguration of a new tasting room with adjoining kitchen. This modern and functional space has been designed not only to host traditional tastings but also private or corporate events, thanks to the collaboration with selected caterers, providing a sophisticated setting beautifully incorporated into the ambience of the estate, where hospitality is warm, discreet and personalised.

At a time when the word “experience” risks being stripped of significance, Saffirio restores its fullest and deepest meaning: that of a close meeting between wine and those who taste it, between the land and those who cross it. An invitation to slow down, listen and understand. And to take not just a bottle away with you at the end of your visit, but the memory of a moment shared, a sincere story, a land which reveals itself to you sip by sip.
