May 19, 2025 (Berryville, VA) — In a major milestone for Virginia’s wine industry, Justin Bogaty, head winemaker for the Bogaty Family Wine Group, has officially reached a career-defining achievement: 100 of his wines have now earned scores of 85 points or higher from Wine Enthusiast Magazine.
The recognition places Bogaty among a select group of American winemakers consistently acknowledged for quality and consistency by one of the industry’s most respected publications. His achievement also underscores the growing prominence of Virginia as a serious contender in the national wine conversation.
The Bogaty Family Wine Group operates three wineries in the northern Shenandoah Valley: Veramar Vineyard, James Charles Winery & Vineyard, and Bogati Winery. All three properties have played a role in building the region’s reputation for producing approachable, expressive wines rooted in Virginia terroir.
Bogaty’s most recent reviews from Wine Enthusiast include:
- 2023 Veramar Chardonnay – 88 Points
“Golden apple, pear and a tinge of almond evolve into a slightly honeyed element… The expression is direct, immediate and visceral.” - 2022 Bogaty Trinity Reserve Red Blend – 88 Points
“Voluptuous, velvety and vibrant… creamy and plush.” - 2023 Bogati Malbec – 87 Points
“Candied blackberry and black plum yield to fennel seed, violets and lavender… approachable to myriad palates.”
All reviews were published by Wine Enthusiast critic C.G.C.
“This milestone is a testament to the entire team behind each bottle,” said Bogaty. “Our mission has always been to produce wines that honor Virginia’s character and offer something both high-quality and accessible. I’m proud to see that work recognized on a national level.”
A graduate of the University of California, Davis, and a lifelong Virginian, Bogaty has led the family-owned group’s winemaking since its inception. Under his guidance, the Bogaty Family Wine Group has emphasized sustainability, innovation, and a commitment to elevating regional wine standards while remaining rooted in family tradition.
The accomplishment arrives at a moment of growing national recognition for Virginia wine. Once considered a niche player in the American wine scene, the state has seen significant growth in quality, production, and consumer interest—thanks in part to winemakers like Bogaty who continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the Mid-Atlantic.
