The Strength of Historic Vineyards in the Future of Vino Nobile DI Montepulciano
May 7, 2025 — Talosa, a historic winery from Montepulciano, continues to play a leading role in enhancing Vino Nobile through its strong commitment to the “Pievi del Nobile” project—an initiative that is reshaping the future of the appellation by zoning and rediscovering its historic vineyards.

This commitment has been recognized by international critics, as demonstrated by the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Pieve Le Grazie 2021, which received 95 points from Vinous, earning the attention of critic Eric Guido, who described it as “everything I hoped it would be,” emphasizing its elegance, complexity, and the extraordinary expressive capacity of its terroir.
Launched in 2020 by the Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, the “Pievi del Nobile” project marked a paradigm shift for the appellation, introducing a zoning system that highlights the individual historic geographical units of the territory. This in-depth study identified twelve Pievi, micro-zones particularly suited for Sangiovese—here known as Prugnolo Gentile—which expresses unique nuances influenced by soil composition, altitude, and microclimate.
Talosa embraced this vision since the beginning, investing in Pieve Le Grazie, a historic area with vineyards cultivated for generations, now entirely organic. This exceptional terroir imparts structure, aromatic depth, and balance to its wines—qualities recognized and awarded by critics.
The Pieve Le Grazie 2021, featured at the Anteprima del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2025 and making its official debut at Vinitaly 2025, stands out for its mentholated freshness and balsamic notes, complemented by hints of dried black cherries, dark chocolate, and cloves, leading to a long and spicy finish that beautifully expresses the identity of its originating Pieve. Approximately 2,500 bottles of the first vintage of Pieve Le Grazie 2021 have been produced.
ABOUT TALOSA
Founded in 1972 by the Jacorossi family, Talosa was one of the first wineries to believe in the potential of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, working relentlessly to elevate its qualitative profile. Today, the winery covers 33 hectares of organic vineyards in the most suitable area of the appellation, Pietrose, at an altitude ranging between 330 and 400 meters. Here, the stony soil and optimal exposure provide wines with structure, elegance, and exceptional longevity.
The heart of the winery is its historic aging cellar, located in the center of Montepulciano, beneath Palazzo Tarugi and Palazzo Sinatti—Renaissance buildings from the 16th century, where large barrels hold Vino Nobile as it rests and matures. This international recognition and participation in the Pievi project reaffirm Talosa’s dedication to producing authentic, identity-driven wines that tell the story of the land with every glass.
